Barebones/Chassis

Microtronica carries chassis manufactured by Supermicro, Intel and Tyan. Furthermore we have barebones in portfolio by Intel and Supermicro. The diversity of products and combinations doesn’t allow to provide a worthy overview here. A few systems though are quite exceptional, so we would like to highlight those.

Super Micro Computer, Inc. or Supermicro® (NASDAQ: SMCI) is a global leader in server technology and engages in computing solutions for Enterprise IT, Datacenter, Cloud Computing, HPC and Embedded Systems worldwide. Supermicro offers a vast array of modular, interoperable components for building energy-efficient, application-optimized, computing solutions. This broad line of products includes servers, blades, GPU systems, workstations, motherboards, chassis, power supplies, storage technologies, networking solutions and SuperRack® cabinets/accessories.

Available as dense computing platform, supporting Intel Xeon E3-1200 series in single socket modules and planned to support Intel Xeon-based 2P modules soon, is the SuperMicro MicroCloud system.

It provides eight compute modules with two disks per node in a 3U chassis, which is only 23” deep. Built for cloud computing, dense data centers, web hosting and virtualization environments, it’s equipped with redundant, platinum level power supplies and of course supports KVM and IPMI 2.0.

Intel has more than 18 years expertise in manufacturing and selling servers. Their products have a clear focus on quality, which is reflected in a MTBF of 67.000 hours of operation for their platforms, that’s almost 8 years! Back in 2008 they brought the first version of Intel Modular Server to market, a combination of six 2P blades plus a 14 disk storage array in one 6U box. It comes with a lot of redundant components for mission critical applications and is certified for a huge amount of software and operating systems, including the common virtualization vendors, of course.

Like for all recent Intel Barebones, there are recipes available providing step-by-step guidance for software installations. An exceptional service Intel started in 2010. The “IMS” also comes with a full set of remote manageability software, as well as built-in virtualization technology by Intel.

Within Microtronica, the “IMS” and SR1630 systems represent the current high-running SKUs, for all kind of purposes.
