Memory

Microtronica carries DRAM products from three manufacturers: Kingston Technology, Micron and Samsung. All produce memory modules for the mobile, desktop and server areas.

Kingston

Kingston desktop memory products are divided into two product families. ValueRAM is primarily intended for system integrators and whitebox customers who are not especially interested in overclocking capabilities.

The relatively long product designations can be decoded using the following scheme:

HyperX memory products are used primarily in the retail and etail sectors, and in combination with Intel Core i7 and Core i5 or AMD FX and Phenom II Black Edition processors.

Top-end gaming systems also require high-performance, overclockable RAM. The designations of these products are coded as follows:

Micron

Transforming - What's Possible

Micron is one of the world's leading semiconductor companies, developing groundbreaking technologies that transform what's possible.

Our DRAM components, modules, and NAND Flash memory products are used in everything from computing, networking, and server equipment, to consumer, mobile, automotive, and industrial applications.

Samsung

Samsung manufactures both memory chips and memory modules and is therefore always at the forefront in launching new fabrication technologies. Samsung offers the industry’s broadest range of products for working memory and has been the industry leader in memory technology for 17 years. Samsung’s DRAM, flash and SRAM products are used in computers ranging from ultralight portable devices to powerful servers, and in a broad spectrum of handheld devices such as smartphones and MP3 players.

In addition to steadily decreasing prices, the constantly decreasing scale of fabrication technology yields devices with lower operating voltage, which translates into lower operating power. Dynamic random access memory (DRAM) devices store data as voltage levels using a capacitance effect. They require regular refreshing to maintain the stored data, and this consumes power. Smaller capacitors and lower voltages directly reduce the amount of stored energy. Only a few months ago energy-efficient DRAM modules were significantly more expensive than ordinary DRAM modules, but now the prices are nearly the same or difference is so slight that it can quickly be recovered in operation.

Samsung has a strong commitment to green memory technology.

Another unique aspect with Samsung is product qualification for use in servers. Nearly all products from leading manufacturers, including the SuperMicro and Intel barebones systems and motherboards, have been tested and qualified with Samsung memory modules. Information on compatible modules can be found on the web pages for SuperMicro and Intel.

For Intel motherboards, we regularly compile a list of compatible modules for you.
